A workshop for bankable industrial water action
Convened by the Corporate Water Leaders and Global Water Intelligence
Why now
West Java's industry depends on water that is getting scarcer and dirtier
West Java is Indonesia's industrial heartland, and the water behind that success is under pressure from two directions at once. Industry depends on this water and also adds to its decline, which gives it a real stake in protecting it.
Industry draws down and pollutes the water it depends on

Those supplies grow insecure and costlier to treat before use
The supply is being drawn down. Across the region, water is pumped out faster than it can refill. In the Bandung basin, underground water levels have fallen tens of metres and the land itself is sinking. For the factories that rely on it, groundwater is getting harder to reach and costlier to use.
The supply is being polluted. The Citarum River supplies close to 30 million people and much of the region's industry. It also carries the heavy metals and toxic chemicals that manufacturing pours into it. The same pollution that harms communities degrades the raw water industry itself draws on.
Both have to be solved together. Neither problem can be fixed by any one company, and the two are tied together. Securing West Java's industrial future means working on both at once.
The workshop is where action begins
One front is making sure industry has cleaner, more reliable water. The other is reducing the harm industry does to the water it shares.
The workshop brings industry, government, utilities, financiers and technical partners into one room to build a shared picture of the problem and shape concrete, fundable projects that participants can take forward.
The approach
Site- and basin-level action on the same agenda
Factory and industrial park operations
Improve what businesses manage directly: water use, treatment, discharge performance, and shared industrial-estate infrastructure.
Basin solutions
Strengthen the wider systems that industries rely on: freshwater resources, utility infrastructure, and nature.
Finance, enabling conditions and project delivery across both
Across both areas, the workshop will examine what opportunities need to move forward — from finance to regulation, institutional ownership, project development, technology, and implementation.
The role you can play
Build, join, or support
Build something new
Co-develop investable water projects with key local stakeholders, strengthening resilience for business, communities and the environment.
Join existing work
Add weight to programmes already running in West Java, where additional partners change the scale and the economics of what's possible.
Support the work
Help projects move forward through your influence and relationships, connecting suppliers, sharing what you know, and creating the conditions that let projects succeed.
